Amber Update!

Melissa Miller

Readers were repelled yet drawn, with that train-wreck curiosity, to Amber (She's a trollop! She's a gold digger!) and her dating misadventures in February's "Single in the City" issue. You didn't ask for it, but here's more: We caught up with the 21-year-old readers loved to hate, who is working at the Financial District Starbucks on Drumm Street.

"I don't think I'm as big of a gold digger as the article made me out to be," says Amber. "And I don't really go out that much; work is a better place to meet guys." As proof, Amber offers that she'd been dating a biology student (hmmm, premed, perhaps?) for a few months, but they broke up when he decided to transfer to UC Santa Cruz. And she swears the guy who took her to Hawaii for five days in March was just a friend. For now, the only sugar in Amber's life is a decaf vanilla latte after work. Now isn't that the state of single life in San Francisco?

Gone

These kids weren’t crazy. They were in the throes of painful—and impulsive—adolescence. Then, suddenly, they were gone.
